Classic Movie Night
Thursday, September 9 at 6 p.m.
Join us for a night of comedy as we
present the 1948 film "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House,"
staring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy. A young family dreams of leaving
their cramped city apartment for the spaciousness of the country and
an older Connecticut farmhouse. What starts as a dream, however,
becomes something else entirely. The evening begins with a newsreel,
a preview of next month's movie (Invasion of the Body Snatchers), a
cartoon and then the feature film. This all takes place on our large
4' bu 6' screen in the library's upstairs conference room. Free,
along with popcorn and beverage!
TUESDAY NIGHT BOOK GROUP:
TUESDAY, September 14 at 7:00 p.m.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg
Larsson
Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his
professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak
until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is
extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch—and
there’s always a catch—is that Blomkvist must first spend a year
researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved
for nearly four decades. With few other options, he accepts and
enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood
genius with a cache of authority issues.
***Special showing of the film on Tuesday, September 28th at 6:00
pm***
